Advice, Guides and Buying Hints:

JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder/VCR - by N Browning
a new product category is emerging that promises to address these problems. Many manufacturers are now introducing components that combine a VHS VCR and DVD recorder in one box. Among the first is JVC's DR-MV1S. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 85 )

Lite-On LVW-5005 DVD Recorder - by Chris Chiarella
hold in my hands the $259 Lite-On LVW-5005, purportedly the first DVD recorder that can write DVD R/ RW and DVD-R/-RW, plus inexpensive CD-R/-RW discs for the handy VideoCD (352-by-240 resolution, 68 minutes of MPEG-1 on a 700-megabyte blank) and Super VideoCD (480-by-480 resolution, 34 minutes of MPEG-2) formats. A built-in tuner means that it's programmable for up to six hours of TV recording, while ample inputs allow for digital archiving of videocassettes. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 105 )

Philips HDRW720 Review - Full Review - by na
The Philips HDRW720 is about as full-featured as you can get with a DVD recorder these days. First, it includes a 181-Ch. NTSC tuner so that it can act just like a VCR. It’s clearly designed to replace the VCR, period! Model HDRW720 also includes a full-featured 120GB Hard-Disc Recorder (or PVR) that can record up to 190 hours of TV programs. It has all of the standard PVR features like Pause, "FlexTime," which allows you to watch a program from the beginning as it is recording, "Instant Replay," and a full-featured free 7-day electronic program guide (EPG). What this means is that unlike other EPGs on the market (such as TiVo and RePlayTV), there is no monthly or lifetime programming fee attached to TV GuidePlus+. This is a wonderful thing! You do, however, get some advertising located on the left-hand side of the guide. It’s a small price to pay for a free EPG. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 92 )

Pioneer DVR-57H DVR/DVD Recorder - by Adrienne Maxwell
Pioneer has introduced two recorder/hard-drive combi units: the 80-gigabyte DVR-810H and the 120-GB Elite DVR-57H that I received for review. Both units come with TiVo Basic service installed, which I'll delve into more fully in a moment. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 96 )

Sony RDR-GX7 DVD Recorder - by Benjamin Dover
The RDR-GX7 might be a relatively small step for a consumer electronics company, but it's a giant leap for consumers who don't want to worry about which recordable DVD format to use. If you want to record a disc that will be compatible with most normal DVD players, use DVD-R; if you want to be able to reuse discs like videotape, use DVD-RW or DVD RW. Personally, I prefer DVD RW because it's easier to deal with%u2014no modes to think about and no finalization required. In any event, the RDR-GX7 is a great solution to a vexing problem, and I salute Sony for making it available. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 91 )

The pioneer DVD recorder is reviewed here. See if it has the features you want. - by na
This Pioneer DVD recorder is basically a TiVo DVR that lets you digitally record video programs on its hard disk and copy them to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. To take full advantage of these capabilities choose the High quality setting rather than Extreme as the default record mode. It doubles the amount of time (2 hours) you can record on the hard disk, and looks just as good. (Added: 13-Nov-2005 Hits: 122 )

The Pioneer DVR 520H stellar picture quality and more. - by na
Pioneer's lowest priced DVR is the Pioneer DVR 520H. This Pioneer DVR has an 80 Gig hard disk. The DVD recorder copies TV programs or VHS to its hard drive, as well as DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. It reads DVD R discs too. This DVD recorder's hard drive is smaller than comparable models from other manufacturers but that's still 18 hours of "Fine" recording or 36 hours of "SP recording (which is just fine for regular time shift recording).
